Web 2.0 Thoughts

Image
I was just finalising my essay ready to submit for tomorrow and since starting this course, I have been torn when it comes to web 2.0.  Although there will be positives and negatives to the majority of things that we deal with in our lives, I normally find I will lean more towards one side and find something more positive than negative or vice versa. However, I still find myself debating with web 2.0! There are so many 'swings and roundabouts' with web 2.0. For example, we can promote business' and share ideas to communicate with others and it allows the opportunity for them to comment and pitch in their ideas and opinions and has the potential to improve ideas.  On the other hand the negative impact that we often see with web 2.0 leaves me wondering if the negative impact outweighs the positive?  With allowing people to comment and share their opinion, you do leave yourself venerable and open to potential criticism and sometimes very negative comments that can have...

Thoughts on the educational side of dance...

I have been thinking a lot lately about my classes that I teach, and in particular my tap classes. My tap classes are my favourite as my students seem to enjoy these classes above all else and I always receive great feedback from them which leaves me feeling upbeat.  I have watched more and more videos and gone to different workshops to try and expose myself to different styles so I can try new things with my students and broaden their lessons and see what they enjoy, however, I have been researching the history of tap lately and was shocked to find it originated from slavery! (I've included a link below that gives a little backstory on this) I was so surprised that I had never been taught this during my training and when I was younger and taking exams. Has anyone else ever been taught this or have you been left in the dark about where these styles we learn today come from to?  I think it is important that we learn these things so we can appreciate the style of dance in ...

Potential Area of Learning

Hi everyone who see's this! I've just had a 1 to 1 with Helen and thought I'd make a post as I was a bit unclear of where to go with my 3 area's of learning but feel like I now have a clearer idea of what to start focusing on and wondered if anyone has any similar area's that they are looking at? I have seen that a few have mentioned self care as an area, but for myself in particular, I have been a type 1 diabetic since the age of 3 and it has something that has always impacted my life, but while I was training, it was something I struggled to manage due to the long and intense days. It was something that I found would hold me back at times because I would be in the middle of a dance class whilst training and find my blood sugar levels would drop and I'd have to stop and focus on testing them and having sugary drinks or snacks to bring them back up before I could join in again when it was safe for me to do so.  I've read the below article online which sugge...

Some thoughts after the first zoom session

So,  I have just been catching up with the video's on the hub page and thought I'd write my first blog.  The things that sprung to mind when listening to the video and what influences is Meisner and my teacher while I was training. Its all about reaction and going off impulse and not holding back. My teacher use to call it "f*** polite". I still am very polite, however I am more impulsive now in my day to day responses, whether that be with work or just reacting to friends and family which I feel has impacted me massively.  The other thing I thought about was how you can have something genetically that can help with influences.  My mum was adopted when she was a baby, but in the last 3/4 years we managed to track down her real family which is from Ireland and America. When meeting them for the first time, we found out that they are all very musical and into their theatre, and I have a second cousin from Michigan who has trained in musical theatre also and has a...
